“Old News is the new album from Tommy Alexander, a singer/songwriter originally from Santa Barbara who’s spent time in Burlington, Vermont, and now lives in Portland. It’s an easygoing collection of scruffy tunes that find a happy ground between power-ish pop and breezy folk strumming.”-The Portland Mercury
In the era of synthetic electro-pop, audiences from across the country have connected with Alexander’s intimate sound. Over the years Tommy has been fortunate to share the stage with acts such as Michael McDonald, Kevin Devine, Rising Appalachia, People Under the Stairs, JOHNNYSWIM, Night Beds, Spirit Family Reunion, Naomi Wachira, and Jenny O .
“Everyday, Every Dime” almost didn’t make the cut, though. As Alexander recalls, “I wrote the tune very light heartedly and it didn’t stick with me right away.
“A good friend heard it and loved the song, and the message. It helped her cope with something important. She breathed life deep into the tune. Now I get asked to play it all the time.”
Portland-based singer/songwriter Tommy Alexander has written a lot of music in a very little amount of time. In the past five years, he’s released two full-length LPs and two EPs in addition to founding an artist collective and record label.
Alexander’s newest record, Old News, is scheduled for release on March 23. He worked with producer Mike Coykendall (of other notable Northwest acts like M. Ward, She and Him, and Blitzen Trapper), to hone his folksy sway into an indie-darling tone.
